TESTIMONIALS

After listening to your teleseminar and reading the transcript, I must tell you, if I never were to take a single class or learn another thing from you, what I have already learned is invaluable!

Like so many others, I have been trying to find the correct way to approach a career in the world of voiceover. And though I have studied with a number of well-meaning teachers, all from whom I have learned something, never has anyone so clearly and comprehensibly laid out the plan (“roadmap”) as to how one ought to approach this, not only as a career, but as a business detailing all of the usual steps and start-up expenses necessary in starting any business in which one hopes to succeed.

This is truly the way to approach any undertaking in life! You have done a great service in putting this information out there. You have doubtless saved me much time, money, and disappointment. For that, I am very grateful. As someone once said, “It pays to know where to purchase Knowledge.” I look forward to the journey ahead!

-Lynda Robertson

The full Your Voiceover Business teleseminar is a gem and a must-have for anyone approaching VO at this moment in history. Just the hard fact up front that you should be prepared to invest$3,000 to $5,000 is sobering and puts it all into the right context. Your timeline/flowchart is priceless and keeps a student on course. Being told that “getting an agent” is not the be-all, end-all goal is enlightening. And the whole concept of branding and how you casting people think was a real “a ha” for me as an actor.Your Meryl Streep example is one I always quote — she can DO or ACT anything, but you wouldn’t just automatically CHOOSE her as “Little Miss Annoying” in the animated series you just cast; instead you’d cast the person who IS Little Miss Annoying in her sleep and not the person who CAN do it.

-J.G.

When you talk about how you need to create a business plan and how you need to invest in your business to be able to reap the benefits ofyour business…that whole thing was really eye opening…

-A. K.

The first teleseminar I listened in on was the first time I realized how important branding and overall image are to a business such as voice over. You both critiqued my demo as well as a few others, and it really opened my eyes! That was the teleseminar that made me want to study with you, Nancy. I just had to learn more after that!

-K. E.

I recommend every student buy the teleseminar before their private lesson!

-M.W.

I just finished the “Your Voice Over Business” MP3 and loved it!  I learned so much (way more than a 6 week course I took in Chicago) and am thrilled to begin coursework with you.  I am looking for in person coaching.. (I haven’tchanged over from my Chicago number yet).  Please email me with the earliest times you have available and also include me on your cancellation list so we can get started asap. Thanks!

-Kim

I just wanted to let you know that I listened to the “bizplan” mp3 today. Great stuff! I’m beyond excited about getting into the session with you soon. By the way, I know it’s your business, but THANK YOU so much for putting this kind of useful/helpful information out there for us starry-eyed VO folks to digest. It is so wonderful to get this from the point of view of the people that actually hire talent.”

-Donovan Corneetz, Durham, North Carolina

The MP3 was terrific — It cost [less than] a class I took regionally, but was MUCH more informative. In my opinion, it should be a requirement for anyone beginning this road.

-Kim White, Newport, Rhode Island

Really enjoyed the MP3 (Your Voice Over Business ) I learned more in two hours than I did in the past two years! See you on Wednesday.

THANK YOU! I took so many notes on so many topics! You two covered so much ground tonight, and I’m so excited to research the resources you mentioned and put the lesson into action. I LOVE that you teach about mindset…the whole idea of capitalizing on the writer’s intention places the focus away from the self and onto delivering the “through line”. It really IS so much more about acting than anything else. After every seminar, I sit for a few minutes and just soak in all the information. Tonight was definitely one of the best ones yet.

So to reconfirm your advice:

The other night, while watching “The Talking Dead” after “The Walking Dead,” one of the actresses on the show, Alicia Witt, explained how she got the part. ‘Scott Gimple (the producer of “The Walking Dead”) started following me on Twitter. I was so excited. Not long after, he contacted me to audition. It was for a blah blah blah scene. Next thing I know, I was flying out to film.’

Holy crap. Social media does it again.

-Caryn Clark

Huge thank you!!! I spent the morning listening to your social media course and yes “what kind of business did you think this was?!” was a real mind opener.
Since then – yes already literally a few hours later, I have been sniffing out those agencies like a tracker dog! And success! I have just got re tweeted by the star in a BBDO NYC advert and an advertising post production sound studio!!! Love it!
My hand is firmly raised – like Hermione in Harry Potter and upping my game!!!!
THANK YOU!!!

-Lorraine

I’m not sure I can reveal how I procured this so I won’t (scandalous! …not really), but I just listened to an unfinished bootleg copy of Nancy Wolfson’s yet-to-be-released seminar about social media and the VO biz. Nancy Wolfson, you have to make this available for everybody as soon as possible! In my opinion, it is quite possibly your masterpiece. It is the jewel in the Braintracksaudio crown. To me, (for lack of a better phrase) this completes your entire curriculum. It transforms your coursework from really amazing incredible voiceover training, to a fully developed business model and road map for voice actors today.

 -Jeff Edelstein (VOX)

Things have taken off for me since recording my new commercial demo with you. Over the past couple of months, since updating my demo on my website and on production studio rosters, I’ve had more inquiries and job offers, and higher paying ones, than in the past year combined!
Just today I had my first Twitter referral convert into an actual job. Very encouraging.

I also really very much appreciate the audition postings you’ve passed on to me.

-Arlene Cooke

Something happened on Twitter the other day that just made my jaw drop. An author tweeted this:
Absolutely loved @TomPerrotta’s book “Nine Inches”, primarily because of the amazing narration by @andi_arndt. Everyone read and/or listen!
And THEN the head of the Audiobook Reviewing department at Publishers’ Weekly followed me back! Had been hoping to get on her radar for quite a while. Twitter DID IT.
So I realized, of course I don’t HAVE to be on Twitter, but if the guy who had tried to pat me on the back hadn’t been able to tag me, there’s a lost opportunity right there.
Cue “I’m A Believer” while I do the Dance Of Humility (wink)

-Andi Arndt

TESTIMONIALS

In the last few days, I've had a few people ask me about where/how to get voice over training. While I don't think ANYTHING can or will replace one on one time with a voice coach...this right here is about as close as it can get. Nancy Wolfson has some of the best info I've ever seen on these videos about sounding "real" with your reads and I witnessed, first hand, an increase in my bookings after watching (and more importantly, applying what I learned). This was definitely a good buy!
-Bryan Saint

I watched your YouTube videos & the ones I bought/downloaded yesterday
morning. I tried some of the techniques you teach and it worked! I booked by first job. I voiced it and uploaded my files this afternoon
Thanks for your help.
-John Steele

Booked the Oregon Lottery 30th Anniversary TV VO gig (you sent) via Stars Agency. I kept hearing your direction: "(When performing), you don't have to make me happy." It makes me happy.
We did the session today and everybody was pleased.
Thank you so much!
-Robert John Hughes

Since I watched your videos, I have gotten two "Likes" from clients.
Thank You for making these videos; now I have more confidence and can sound
more conversational. It was my downfall sounding like an announcer/broadcaster. Two likes in two days, that's huge for me!!
-Carol

I really loved the videos and so appreciate all the information. I've been auditioning a lot more because I'm feeling so confident. While I don't think ANYTHING can or will replace one on one time with a voice coach...this right here is about as close as it can get. I used to barely be listened to. I am seriously working studying with you into my business plan. Thank you for all you do.
Regards,
-Christi Bowen

I don’t brag on myself a lot, because I’m usually too busy picking my work apart.  But, I wanted you to hear this.

I believe it’s one of the best VO’s I’ve ever done, and it’s because of your influence. Two or three years ago, I would have no concept of “Admit, Don’t Sell.” (How to Sound Real.) So, thank you.  I hope you like it.
-Allen Farmer

That was the most enlightening 83 seconds of the last 6 months.
-Jenn Henry

I just have to tell you this, Nancy, although you surely already know it.
You are a master teacher. I just finished listening to reel 1 (just one reel so far, and I swear my feet aren't touching the floor!!!) You are so articulate and fluent in a language that I understand perfectly. I KNOW I am on my way to becoming a very successful v/o performer. I am literally shaking with excitement, because for the very first time, the direction and analysis makes perfect sense, and I can see exactly how to apply it.
You are answering questions I didn't even know how to ask. I hope to be able to do some phoners with you at some point, and will tell everyone pursuing this profession to do themselves a huge favor and get your downloads. Please keep 'em coming.
So sincerely you have no idea,
-Deborah Gear

Just a quick note to let you know that your simple comment to get the "Ned Flanders" out of my voice has improved my booking ratio amazingly.
I have already booked and recorded 2 of 4 auditions I've done since the lesson, and just got notification that I've booked another.
Between the auditions that I'm booking and the work I'm getting from my regular clients, I'm running out of time to audition…
Thank you.
-Dan Harder

The (Your Voice Over Business) MP3 was terrific — It cost [less than] a class I took regionally, but was MUCH more informative. In my opinion, it should be a requirement for anyone beginning this road.

-Kim White, Newport, Rhode Island

Very few classes offer on a consistent basis what you guys offer:  the unique combo of your personalities and strengths.  It’s invaluable.  Nancy’s got the business-minded former-agent who gives you that oh-so-rare, true look into how agents really think and what they really want and care about, paired with Anna’s business-minded, working VO actress who can play devil’s advocate and give practical advice that’s still peppered with the traditional thought-processes of an actor walking the fine line in this business.  There are few classes geared toward how the VO business is operating RIGHT NOW, with multiple agents, etc.  The other teachers are HIDING from it and don’t even mention Voices.com, Voice123 and teach how things USED TO BE.

-J.G.

I just listened to the (Acting for Advertising) MP3. It is something I might play for myself before every audition for the rest of my career. Talk about laser focus on a core issue of insecurity! I’ve actually been running around FOREVER believing I don’t HAVE a unique sound. But after reading this e-mail and listening to your recorded piece, I realize what a crock of sh!t that is. Somebody else’s tape has been playing in my head. (Thanks, Mom!) I will be ever so much more comfortable tackling this (and future) auditions just with the few words you’ve spoken to me on this issue. But, trust me, these words have been worth their weight in gold. Nuggets they are! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

How could I even keep track of recording a whole book by myself in my home studio?

And what about Erotica? Should I go for it? How much should I charge?

I’ve been listening to a ton of audiobooks, and I KNOW I’m ready to break in, so tell me the action steps I can take NOW to get the audiobook gigs coming my way!

The director/engineer for my vo session this morning, complimented me on how well I read today. I cold read a bunch of :30 ads for a video phonebook and the whole time, I kept repeating to myself, “I am a service provider”. It kept me calm inside. I knocked my session out of the park. Thank you so much, Nancy.

-Susan

I just booked the TV promos in English & French for James Blunt’s latest album! I had worked with this client before (I had booked the Jonas Brothers & Justin Bieber promos last year) but THIS was a more toned down “real” read than those & I KNOW that our work together is what got me the gig! I am LOVING “getting” it!

We’re addressing two chapters from Nancy’s core curriculum as well as “behind the scenes” Agent Dos and Don’ts from the dish agents have shared with us recently. You want to know what they’re saying…

A few of the topics covered: The Fresh Sense of Arrival. This concept helps you bring greater realism to your roles with critical tempo tricks.

What to do with similies, metaphors, ellipses…and what NOT to do.

How agents use VoiceBank and why this knowledge gives you an edge on the competition.

The pros and cons of having multiple regional agents – what you want to look for and what to avoid.

The three turn-offs that will make your agent never want to send you another piece of copy again.

Plus a killer QandA that addresses union status, how to avoid “Desperate Actor Syndrome,” how to submit yourself to an agent via email, pursuing corporate narration work, expressing appreciation vs. hard marketing, and much more…

…the one-hour session went effortlessly with several VERY well-pleased clients, so I’ll credit your coaching in my performance:  $7500.00 for several national radio/tv spots promoting this year’s PGA Championship Tour.  And it wasn’t a character voice.  Just me.  Evidently, you are right again…I am “enough.”

-Rowell Gorman

Thank you so much for the teleconference last night! It’s such a blessing to be able to receive this information (and at such an affordable price), so that even a stay-at-home mom can still have the tools to make a dream come true. Thank you both for sharing your gifts, knowledge, and talent.

-Kim White

I just finished the lecture from “Acting #3, Align-Escalate-Solve.” Every time I finish a chapter or hear a lecture, I am struck by how brilliant all of this is and how all of this is exactly what I need to hear. I am so moved by the “I am enough” philosophy, because all of my acting life (and possibly personal as well) I tried to be a funny character or funny voice to be accepted. I became such a good mimic, I lost touch of who I was. I will spare you all the details, but just say thank you for compiling and mastering all of this. I am so happy I have found you. I have no doubt that this is the best investment I have made in myself as well as my career.

I just wanted to drop you a note to say how fortunate I feel to have been pointed in your direction by Anna. I could have seriously squandered a lot of time, energy and money on coaches locally who have not a fraction of the experience & insight you provide your students. This is prompted by having listened last week to the A for A part 4 three or four times, and the GEM of the “Threes.” (all the installments make for great iPod listening in the edit suites at work. Although I have yet to book my first job, I feel a distinct advantage by having gone through your curriculum with you, not to mention the huge value of the A for A tele-seminars series. You and Anna do a tremendous service with those.)

-Rodney Higgins, Marietta, Georgia

Just finished a phone patch session for 2 spots for LifeLock. I’m pretty sure I landed the gig based on my treatment of a “threes” section of the copy (as I’m sure it did for Barclays). That chapter alone has more than paid for all my training with you. I can’t thank you enough… Best,

-Chris Camilleri

As I’ve been listening to more and more VO on tv and radio, I’ve been trying to figure out why the “musicality” of the reads isn’t more distinct, UP then DOWN, or DOWN then UP, whatever, as it’s always kind of in the “middle.” BOOM, and here’s my answer in the THREE’s teleseminar…..have a good weekend, see ya Monday.

-John Biondolillo

Hi Nancy
I'm writing to tell you that your training has made a real difference in my life. Shortly after I completed the BrainTracksAudio training, I came to work here at RTI International, a non-profit research institute. People didn't know what made listening to me so much more interesting that listening to others--but I did.  It was your training. "N-B-C" has served me very well. And so have other tricks of the trade. Most of my voice work has supported professional training programs, but recently, I was selected to be the voice of an 2D animated physician explaining and ensuring that potential participants in clinical trials understand the benefits and risks of joining a study. When I heard the competition, it was obvious they had not studied with you.
I'm also the person who gets to attend commercial video productions to support a number of FDA studies. And I can tell you on the one shoot when a "cat...fat" delivery would have really turned the trick--although I could do it--our actor could not.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I'm still out here and still grateful for the training I took with you so many years ago.
All the best,
-Kayla Gray

Nice job on A4A#5 (Acting for Advertising), especially the headphone segment…good reminder.  I did a little experiment; started a spot with my normal headphone configuration (one side on, one side off) and then removed them completely half way through and finished the spot, how you say…”bareback?” The difference first half to last half was striking.  The first half was overly projected and “announcery”…the last half the exact antithesis, noticeably more conversational, relaxed, believable. I’ve taken to using them only immediately before recording to set up mic mechanics (proximity, angle to relieve pops, yadda, yadda) and then actually recording the audition or spot w/out ’em. Onward.

GREAT teleseminar!!  I enjoyed your perspective as well as Nancy’s when it came to the example of the girl who booked the gig but failed to check the availability on the record date!
-Janet

I just did a radio spot for a hospital on subject of chronic pain. Clients liked my voice and delivery and thought I told the story well, but after the first take i got that “make it warmer” direction you mentioned on your Acting for Advertising #8/”Reassure Someone Else” tele-seminar.

While this client was smart enough to elaborate on what she meant, I used the extra “empathy” and “assurance” layering you mentioned in the call/lesson.

According to the client, I nailed it on the next take.

Out of three total, that was the one she kept.

Thank you.

-Rowell Gormon, Raleigh NC

During a recent teleseminar, Nancy Wolfson talked about how to interpret the common direction to “be more warm” or “warm it up a bit.” I thought her advice was excellent. Little did I know how excellent.

Less than 24 hours later I was in a recording session with a director with whom I hadn’t previously worked. His direction after our first pass through the copy? “Make it warmer.” That’s right. And, putting into practice what I’d just learned the previous evening, the session ended up going very well. The director was pleased with how quickly we were able to narrow in on exactly what he wanted. Naturally I was pleased because the fee for that session was multiples more than the price of the teleseminar.

Testimonials Tonight’s seminar was fantastic! The point you made about researching agencies on voicebank was BRILLIANT. I highlighted, circled, and underlined that section of my notes. You gave us a very specific way to market our brand to a talent agency…stuff I’ve never heard anywhere else! THANK YOU!!!!

-Kim

Tonight’s teleseminar was my first, and I came away with many new *sugarplum nuggets of info* dancing in my head.

Thank you!!

While the “If Only” lesson was a great one, I must admit that I was cheering aloud when you voiced your opinions on revealing to much of oneself on Twitter and Facebook. I wholeheartedly agree.

Also, the story of Wally booking “The Tonight Show” audition was very inspiring. Perfect reminder of how anything can happen, and remaining positive in any situation will ALWAYS be a plus.

Can’t wait to hear about the upcoming “brain grenade” you’re holding for the next teleseminar. And, in the meantime, all the best to you from your hometown of Denvah!
