TESTIMONIALS

The (Your Voice Over Business) MP3 was terrific — It cost [less than] a class I took regionally, but was MUCH more informative. In my opinion, it should be a requirement for anyone beginning this road.
-Kim White, Newport, Rhode Island

Very few classes offer on a consistent basis what you guys offer:  the unique combo of your personalities and strengths.  It’s invaluable.  Nancy’s got the business-minded former-agent who gives you that oh-so-rare, true look into how agents really think and what they really want and care about, paired with Anna’s business-minded, working VO actress who can play devil’s advocate and give practical advice that’s still peppered with the traditional thought-processes of an actor walking the fine line in this business.  There are few classes geared toward how the VO business is operating RIGHT NOW, with multiple agents, etc.  The other teachers are HIDING from it and don’t even mention Voices.com, Voice123 and teach how things USED TO BE.
-J.G.

I just listened to the (Acting for Advertising) MP3. It is something I might play for myself before every audition for the rest of my career. Talk about laser focus on a core issue of insecurity! I’ve actually been running around FOREVER believing I don’t HAVE a unique sound. But after reading this e-mail and listening to your recorded piece, I realize what a crock of sh!t that is. Somebody else’s tape has been playing in my head. (Thanks, Mom!) I will be ever so much more comfortable tackling this (and future) auditions just with the few words you’ve spoken to me on this issue. But, trust me, these words have been worth their weight in gold. Nuggets they are! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

TESTIMONIALS

The director/engineer for my vo session this morning, complimented me on how well I read today. I cold read a bunch of :30 ads for a video phonebook and the whole time, I kept repeating to myself, “I am a service provider”. It kept me calm inside. I knocked my session out of the park. Thank you so much, Nancy.
-Susan

I just booked the TV promos in English & French for James Blunt’s latest album! I had worked with this client before (I had booked the Jonas Brothers & Justin Bieber promos last year) but THIS was a more toned down “real” read than those & I KNOW that our work together is what got me the gig! I am LOVING “getting” it!

Stretch/Grab/Assert & Fresh Sense of Arrival • mp3 (1hr 33min) • CLICK FOR MORE INFO

We’re addressing two chapters from Nancy’s core curriculum as well as “behind the scenes” Agent Dos and Don’ts from the dish agents have shared with us recently. You want to know what they’re saying…

A few of the topics covered: The Fresh Sense of Arrival. This concept helps you bring greater realism to your roles with critical tempo tricks.

What to do with similies, metaphors, ellipses…and what NOT to do.

How agents use VoiceBank and why this knowledge gives you an edge on the competition.

The pros and cons of having multiple regional agents – what you want to look for and what to avoid.

The three turn-offs that will make your agent never want to send you another piece of copy again.

Plus a killer QandA that addresses union status, how to avoid “Desperate Actor Syndrome,” how to submit yourself to an agent via email, pursuing corporate narration work, expressing appreciation vs. hard marketing, and much more…

…the one-hour session went effortlessly with several VERY well-pleased clients, so I’ll credit your coaching in my performance:  $7500.00 for several national radio/tv spots promoting this year’s PGA Championship Tour.  And it wasn’t a character voice.  Just me.  Evidently, you are right again…I am “enough.”
-Rowell Gorman

Thank you so much for the teleconference last night! It’s such a blessing to be able to receive this information (and at such an affordable price), so that even a stay-at-home mom can still have the tools to make a dream come true. Thank you both for sharing your gifts, knowledge, and talent.
-Kim White

I just finished the lecture from “Acting #3, Align-Escalate-Solve.” Every time I finish a chapter or hear a lecture, I am struck by how brilliant all of this is and how all of this is exactly what I need to hear. I am so moved by the “I am enough” philosophy, because all of my acting life (and possibly personal as well) I tried to be a funny character or funny voice to be accepted. I became such a good mimic, I lost touch of who I was. I will spare you all the details, but just say thank you for compiling and mastering all of this. I am so happy I have found you. I have no doubt that this is the best investment I have made in myself as well as my career.

I just wanted to drop you a note to say how fortunate I feel to have been pointed in your direction by Anna. I could have seriously squandered a lot of time, energy and money on coaches locally who have not a fraction of the experience & insight you provide your students. This is prompted by having listened last week to the A for A part 4 three or four times, and the GEM of the “Threes.” (all the installments make for great iPod listening in the edit suites at work. Although I have yet to book my first job, I feel a distinct advantage by having gone through your curriculum with you, not to mention the huge value of the A for A tele-seminars series. You and Anna do a tremendous service with those.)
-Rodney Higgins, Marietta, Georgia

Just finished a phone patch session for 2 spots for LifeLock. I’m pretty sure I landed the gig based on my treatment of a “threes” section of the copy (as I’m sure it did for Barclays). That chapter alone has more than paid for all my training with you. I can’t thank you enough… Best,
-Chris Camilleri

As I’ve been listening to more and more VO on tv and radio, I’ve been trying to figure out why the “musicality” of the reads isn’t more distinct, UP then DOWN, or DOWN then UP, whatever, as it’s always kind of in the “middle.” BOOM, and here’s my answer in the THREE’s teleseminar…..have a good weekend, see ya Monday.

Nice job on A4A#5 (Acting for Advertising), especially the headphone segment…good reminder.  I did a little experiment; started a spot with my normal headphone configuration (one side on, one side off) and then removed them completely half way through and finished the spot, how you say…”bareback?” The difference first half to last half was striking.  The first half was overly projected and “announcery”…the last half the exact antithesis, noticeably more conversational, relaxed, believable. I’ve taken to using them only immediately before recording to set up mic mechanics (proximity, angle to relieve pops, yadda, yadda) and then actually recording the audition or spot w/out ’em. Onward.

Feeder/Snapper • mp3 (1hr 30min) • CLICK FOR MORE INFO

Here are just a few of the topics we cover:

FEEDER/SNAPPER. Part 2 of a Radio Autopsy!

Recognize the writer’s comedic bookending…set the trap and snap it shut!

If you fail to hit a critical foreshadowing beat in storytelling, producers think you don’t know where your story is headed = they hit “delete” by your second sentence.

If you dazzle them all the way down the :60 script but fail to “wink” the comedic callback, you don’t get your own joke (or the job!) Learn what extra bumps you’ve gotta give your “rant” to honor the writing and WIN.

Behind The Agent Curtain– Negotiation protocol – what’s the difference between your online self-negotiation tacks vs your negotiation decorum with your agent.

When NOT to audition — casting advice from the trenches – how to avoid scheduling nightmares that BACKFIRE ON TALENT.

Actor to Actor–Brand Slumming and the Benefits of Delayed Gratification

Lying to get a foot in the door — when & why there’s danger in fudging the truth.

Database management — where & how to track your clients, projects, and auditions to market yourself easily to book more jobs.

What to put in the proposal boxes on the voice over website submission services.

GREAT teleseminar!!  I enjoyed your perspective as well as Nancy’s when it came to the example of the girl who booked the gig but failed to check the availability on the record date!
-Janet
THANK YOU! I took so many notes on so many topics! You two covered so much ground tonight, and I’m so excited to research the resources you mentioned and put the lesson into action. I LOVE that you teach about mindset…the whole idea of capitalizing on the writer’s intention places the focus away from the self and onto delivering the “through line”. It really IS so much more about acting than anything else. After every seminar, I sit for a few minutes and just soak in all the information. Tonight was definitely one of the best ones yet.

Here are just a few of the topics covered:

• U-TURN Part 3 of a Radio Autopsy!

How to recognize and service the CRITICAL mid-story axis point.

If you don’t raise the stakes in the “problem” zone, you risk being “announcery” in the solution.

Where you must exaggerate escalation of the “want,” then snap with sharp contrast into a relaxed “solve.”

The audition performances that HOOK THE BOOKINGS on scripts written in this pattern do things you might not have thought were tasteful or necessary!

Hear the audition examples that inspired Nancy to decide to teach this stuff to already-great actors!

I just did a radio spot for a hospital on subject of chronic pain. Clients liked my voice and delivery and thought I told the story well, but after the first take i got that “make it warmer” direction you mentioned on your Acting for Advertising #8/”Reassure Someone Else” tele-seminar.

While this client was smart enough to elaborate on what she meant, I used the extra “empathy” and “assurance” layering you mentioned in the call/lesson.

According to the client, I nailed it on the next take.

Out of three total, that was the one she kept.

Thank you.
-Rowell Gormon, Raleigh NC

During a recent teleseminar, Nancy Wolfson talked about how to interpret the common direction to “be more warm” or “warm it up a bit.” I thought her advice was excellent. Little did I know how excellent.

Less than 24 hours later I was in a recording session with a director with whom I hadn’t previously worked. His direction after our first pass through the copy? “Make it warmer.” That’s right. And, putting into practice what I’d just learned the previous evening, the session ended up going very well. The director was pleased with how quickly we were able to narrow in on exactly what he wanted. Naturally I was pleased because the fee for that session was multiples more than the price of the teleseminar.

Testimonials Tonight’s seminar was fantastic! The point you made about researching agencies on voicebank was BRILLIANT. I highlighted, circled, and underlined that section of my notes. You gave us a very specific way to market our brand to a talent agency…stuff I’ve never heard anywhere else! THANK YOU!!!!
-Kim

Tonight’s teleseminar was my first, and I came away with many new *sugarplum nuggets of info* dancing in my head.

Thank you!!

While the “If Only” lesson was a great one, I must admit that I was cheering aloud when you voiced your opinions on revealing to much of oneself on Twitter and Facebook. I wholeheartedly agree.

Also, the story of Wally booking “The Tonight Show” audition was very inspiring. Perfect reminder of how anything can happen, and remaining positive in any situation will ALWAYS be a plus.

Can’t wait to hear about the upcoming “brain grenade” you’re holding for the next teleseminar. And, in the meantime, all the best to you from your hometown of Denvah!
